Tony J. Asante, MD

Dr. Tony Asante specializes in anesthesiology with fellowship training in pain medicine. He is a resident member of American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, American Society of Anesthesiology, Indiana Society of Anesthesiology, and American Medical Association. Dr. Asante is also a member of Ghana Medical Association and Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is trained in otolaryngology, the study of diseases of the ear and throat.

Dr. Asante received his Bachelor of Science in Human Biology (2000) and his Bachelor of Medicine/Surgery from the University of Science and Technology in Ghana (2004). In 2005, he began his otolaryngology residency at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Ghana after serving as a medical officer for a year. He completed his residency with the hospital and gained a Business Administration degree from University of Science and Technology in 2009.

Dr. Asante practiced otolaryngology for 5 years in Ghana before coming to the United States in 2014 to begin his Clinical Observership in the Otolaryngology Department at the Loyola University. Later through a collaboration with Otolaryngology Department at Indiana University Hospital, he became a Research Associate with the Anatomy and Cell Biology Department.

In 2016 Dr. Asante matched into a one-year preliminary General Surgery Residency and subsequently matched into Anesthesiology Residency for which he completed another year of a General Surgery Internship at Indiana University.

In 2021 Dr. Asante completed an Anesthesiology Residency at Indiana University. He gained a Fellowship in Pain Medicine at the University of Iowa before moving to Paducah, with his wife and four children, to join the OIWK Pain Management Center.

While in Ghana, Dr. Asante volunteered his time in medical outreach with such organizations as the Hearing Assessment and Research Mobile Ear Clinic, Calvary Charismatic Centre, Filial Heart Foundation. In the US, he served as Vice-Chair of the Medical Response Team with PIWC Church in Indianapolis, IN.

Dr. Asante has published research in peer-reviewed journals and presented research at industry conferences. He enjoys wildlife, reading, and movies.
